Automated Dispensing

By: Food & Beverage | May 27, 2011 | Reading time: 1 minute
Q. Do I get more for my money buying dispensed chemical products?

A. Yes. Oftentimes the formulation constraints on all-in-one products require more dilute solutions to achieve adequate stability. Formulating concentrates for dispensing opens the door to putting all the compatible ingredients together at higher concentrations. For instance, bleach and alkali go in one part, and detergents go in another. When formulations are built from several stable concentrates, you pay for less water. Also, our ingredient choices can now be based more on what gives the best bang for the buck, instead of what gives us shelf life.

Q. Does a dispensing system provide results as good as standard products?

A. Better, really. The lab can choose ingredients with the best performance profiles for the application, rather than settle for what will be stable in a certain matrix. When the concentrates are blended onsite, they only have to survive a limited amount of time together, so the stability profiles become a smaller issue.

Q. What are some applications for automated dispensing?

A. The sky is the limit. We have implementations that cover daily cleaning and sanitizing, stack deodorizing, automated laundry, wastewater applications, standard and automated CIP, batch and continuous hot tank cleaning, batch and continuous food bleaching, atomizing of everything from smokehouses to rail tank cars.

Q. What are some good reasons to choose automated dispensing for my plant?

A. Safety is a big one. Semi-bulk installations, along with automated mixing not only reduce, but in some cases, can eliminate chemical handling by employees. Time, labor and potential liabilities are saved.Cost tracking and waste control are improved with automated dispensing systems. Accurate records can be maintained, and spill and loss control measures are easily integrated into your chemical program.Savings always occur, for the reasons outlined above.
